AASHTO T 324
This equipment is used to evaluate the rutting resistance and moisture susceptibility of hot-mix asphalt (HMA). Under repeated moving-wheel loading, the permanent deformation of the asphalt mixture is measured. Rut depth and the number of wheel passes at failure are used to evaluate premature failure caused by inadequate aggregate structure, insufficient binder strength, or moisture damage. Since the specimens can be tested while fully submerged in water at a controlled temperature, the equipment can also be used to evaluate the effects of moisture damage on asphalt mixture performance.
